1️⃣ A lot number is a unique identification number assigned to a specific batch or lot of a product during manufacturing activities. This number is typically used to track and trace the product throughout its entire life cycle, from production to distribution and sale. In the pharmaceutical industry, lot numbers are used to identify specific batches of medications or vaccines.
2️⃣ This is important for ensuring the product quality which in turn assures the safety and efficacy of the product once released for sale in the market. The lot number allows manufacturers and regulators to monitor the product and quickly identify and address any quality-related or distribution-related issues. It helps in restricting distribution as well as for recall if any from the market. Lot numbers are also applicable in other industries, such as food, cosmetics, and manufacturing, where they play a similar role in ensuring product quality and safety.
3️⃣ Lot numbers are typically printed on the product packaging that includes primary packaging in which the product is packed as well as secondary and tertiary packaging used for transportation. Other information such as the expiration date and manufacturing date product is also captured along with the lot number. If a product is recalled, the lot number can be used to identify the specific batch affected and can be quickly recalled from the market.
